Hone Your Craft in a Collaborative Workshop

Join Ella Peary for a Five Day Virtual Writing Retreat

Monday, October 31st to Friday, November 4th — 2 to 4:30pm ET Daily.

The best breakthroughs often happen through a short period of intense study. This is especially true if you have the guidance of an expert who can help you move in the right direction. This five-day workshop is for writers who want to spend a focused week studying the art and craft of writing with a small group of writers dedicated to their craft.

As Mary Oliver says:

“The best thing about workshops is that people learn there that they can change, that they can write better and differently from what they had always thought themselves capable of… It is a great pleasure to see people surpass what they thought was the measure of their ability.”

During this workshop, participants will spend a week focused on learning and growing as writers. You'll participate in dynamic discussions about your own writing, and hone your knowledge of craft by contributing to discussions about others' work. These discussions will offer valuable lessons on writing and editing. You’ll integrate what you learn by completing daily in-class exercises designed to help you generate seeds for new writing.

You will also get two rounds of detailed, written feedback from Ella Peary on your work, including a list of publishers who might be a good fit for your writing.

The workshop includes:

  • Five days of two-hour workshops with a small group of writers
  • Daily writing exercises
  • Personal feedback on your writing from Ella Peary
  • A list of publishers who may be a good fit for your writing
  • Access to live office hours, even after the workshop is complete

Please note, this workshop will be strictly limited to just ten students. No exceptions.

If you are interested in joining us, you are encouraged to enroll right away.

Schedule

This will be a live workshop, with daily meetings held online, via Zoom. The workshop will take place from 2pm to 4:30pm ET each day. The workshop starts on Monday, October 31st and concludes on Friday, November 4th. There will also be a post-workshop class reading on Wednesday, November 16th at 2pm ET.

After the initial workshop, you will have a month to submit your revisions to Ella for an additional round of feedback.

Enroll now.

This workshop is strictly limited to 10 students.
Early bird tuition is available until Monday, October 24th.

Personal Feedback On Your Writing

Every student will receive in-depth personal feedback from Ella Peary, as well as collaborative feedback from your follow students in the workshop. Before the workshop, you will be asked to submit two poems up to 2 pages each, or two flash pieces up to 1,000 words each.

You will get written feedback from Ella on your initial work, in addition to a round of feedback on revisions. You will also be given a list of publishers who may be a good fit for your writing.

I want to thank Ella so much for this wonderful course. I cannot stress enough that it has been a life-changing experience for me. Flash fiction speaks to me in a way that I cannot yet understand; but what I do know is that it fills me. I appreciate Ella's clear guidance in leading me along this path. As well, I valued her help in showing me how to make these stories the best they could be. Editing, finding the flash and eliminating unnecessary material & diversions are still a huge challenge, but I'm launched, and have a much better sense now of ways to proceed.

Ella Peary is a masterful instructor. I learned so much about the genre of flash fiction from her and find it one of the best avenues now for my fiction writing. Ella's course is clear, concise and provides many options and prompts to try your hand at writing short, powerful pieces. This course has also helped my fiction writing overall, be it short story or poetry. Her "office hours" are also helpful, with live question and answer periods and reviews of stories. I highly recommend this workshop.

Before I took this course, I was not even sure I was writing poetry. I knew my poetry was more narrative and less language-based, but that didn't mean that I did not use sharp images and oddly descriptive phrases like other poets did. It was just that I thought my poems often told a story that seemed understandable and were not encoded in images that needed to be interpreted in order to make sense of the product. But I received positive feedback on my writing, encouragement to continue writing, and signals on how to improve my writing. So to make a long story short, two weeks after I had finished the course, I had had two poems accepted by literary magazines. One was going to go online very soon and the other was coming out in a February 2021 issue. I feel my time, energy, and money were used to great advantage in this course, and I would take it again in a heartbeat.
