Personal feedback from Emily Colin on the first 10 pages of your manuscript.
Personal feedback on your book's "back cover" copy from Emily Colin.
Three live class meetings, so you can discuss your work with Emily and the class.
Students get a full six months to submit their work for feedback.
Access to live office hours with all of our instructors, available exclusively to students of Authors Publish, after the course is finished.
Full access to our private community of writers, so you can network with your fellow students
Have you always dreamed of writing a romance novel, but don’t know where to begin? Or have you started writing, but find yourself mired in the middle? Finished your book, but not quite sure if it hits the mark? Then this class is for you.
In this one-week intensive, you’ll get to the heart of writing an engaging romance novel, learning what draws readers in and keeps them turning pages until your characters’ happily-ever-after.
The course includes personal interaction with Emily Colin, personal feedback on your writing, and access to live office hours with all Authors Publish instructors, even after the course is over.
The class will have five video lectures, each accompanied by a slide presentation and focused on a different element of writing romance.
Emily will also give you in-depth feedback on two pieces. The first is your back-cover copy. If your novel isn't done yet, this is a great exercise to make sure you have a solid grip on the story.
Emily will also give you detailed feedback on the first 10 pages of your manuscript. These are the most important pages of your book, in terms of hooking both readers and publishers.
You'll be able to discuss Emily's feedback with her personally over email, or during the live class meetings. (Note, the meetings will be held online, via Zoom.) Midway through the class, you’ll have a write-in, where everyone’s invited to sit down together (virtually, of course!), share what you’re working on, and use the time to focus on your writing. Emily reports that she is looking forward to this, as it’ll give all of you a chance to get to know each other better, and for Emily to offer real-time feedback on any challenges you’re facing.
There will be three class meetings, where Emily will offer specific advice for your manuscript, discuss student work in a group setting, and lecture on the art and craft of writing a romance novel. One of the meetings will be the "write-in" described above. Emily is excited about this, as it’ll give all of you a chance to get to know each other better, and for Emily to offer real-time feedback on any challenges you’re facing.
The meeting schedule is as follow:
Please note, this workshop is strictly limited to fifteen students. We will immediately close enrollment as soon as the course is filled. If you are planning on taking this course, you are encouraged to enroll right away.
The course includes five in-depth lectures that will be recorded and made available on Monday, June 6th. There is text-based discussion for each of the lessons, with active participation by Emily Colin. Everything is hosted online.
When you are ready, you will be able to submit two assignments for feedback from Emily Colin. The first is the “back cover” copy of your book. Don’t worry if you haven’t yet finished the book; this is a great exercise to make sure you’ve got a grip on your characters and your story. The second assignment is the first ten pages of your manuscript. Emily will provide detailed feedback on these assignments, as well as answer any questions you have about her feedback via email, or during the live meetings.
You will have a full six months to complete the course and submit your work to Emily Colin for feedback. At that point, you will keep access to all of the course material, and be welcome to attend office hour sessions with all of our instructors.
There will also be three live class meetings, hosted on Zoom. They are scheduled for:
Pre-recorded lectures, available to study any time on our online learning platform, hosted by Thinkific.
Personal feedback on every lesson via email, our online discussion platform, or our private Facebook Group.
When you are ready, Emily will provide feedback on your first 10 manuscript pages, and back-cover copy for your book.
Students have a full six months to complete the course and submit work for feedback.

She packed so much useful information into one week of lectures (which are downloadable!); and provided lots of tips and suggestions for further reading, etc. She clearly knows the romance biz; and it was refreshing to be able to talk about that aspect of things. And last but not least, of course, is the feedback: Emily provided high quality comments on my assignments. She was a very caring instructor who genuinely tried to understand all our stories. I feel ready to go forth and write!

Emily has a clear and welcoming instructional style, and she provides extremely detailed and helpful feedback on assignments. This is truly one of the best writing classes I've taken, and I highly recommend it to writers of all levels.

Read MoreEmily Colin is a hard-working instructor. Instead of skimming through my work, she would dissect it bit by bit and ask me questions that I haven't been asked before. It helped me to look at my story from a different perspective. Since she concentrated on this being a YA story instead of a romance, she gave me feedback to make my story work for the YA market. I am really glad I took this course.

Read MoreEmily's course was very well laid out and included a lot of useful information. While some of it was familiar, it was useful to understand her take on it. It also helped confirm previous research I had done on several topics, which was a relief! Emily's feedback was always helpful, insightful and thought provoking. She really went above and beyond what was promised. Sometimes an 'online' format can end up being detached and mechanical, but not this one!

Read MoreAn excellent course, well put together with lots of insight, extra information and thought from Emily Colin. I really enjoyed doing the daily lessons and the homework exercises, which helped me to think about aspects of writing and structure that I had not considered before. The price of the course was well worth it for the content. Emily gave us personal feedback on submitted pieces of work and was very encouraging of ideas and thought processes, which I really appreciated. Asking us to consider how our own favourite writers (in published YA novels) tackle certain barriers such as plotting, stakes, etc, was a useful tool to apply to our own work. Overall, a fantastic course for anyone serious about writing, even if they don't plan to write or publish YA.
Read LessThis course is designed to give authors a solid foundation for writing an engaging romance novel that wins over readers and publishers. If you're new to writing romance novels, this course is a perfect fit.
If you're already working on a manuscript, you'll learn techniques to make the book more engaging, both to readers and publishers. You'll also get personal feedback from Emily Colin on your manuscript, so that you can take it to the next level.
We expect the class meetings to be around two hours.
After the class meetings are complete, you will be invited to attend future office hour sessions with Emily Colin and all Authors Publish instructors. Note, this will be free of charge, and is a benefit of becoming part of the Authors Publish student community. You will also have a full six months from the course start date to send your work for feedback to Emily. In addition, you will keep full access to all of the course material.
Because of the in-depth feedback Emily Colin is providing, this course is strictly limited to 15 students. Once we reach that number, we will immediately close enrollment.
