The Revision Workshop with Daisuke Shen

March 30th to May 3rd, 2026
Sundays, 2pm to 4pm ET
5 Weeks • Short Fiction • Online

So often writers are taught to abide by a list of rules without actually being told why they exist. Even worse is the anxiety of feeling like your work falls outside of the norm — your plots are not linear, your characters are not “relatable.”

In this class, we will hone our ability to understand our stories on their own terms, developing their strengths rather than looking for mistakes to be corrected.

This course is for writers who want to push their storytelling abilities further -- while honoring your strengths and unique perspective.

Every week of this course, you’ll gain insights into the art and craft of revising your writing, with craft tips, readings, and prompts designed to help you hone your strengths as an author.

You’ll also meet the editor of an established press, as well as a successful author, both of whom will be sharing their insights and strategies for revising your work, as well as discussing what the revision process looks like for both writers and publishers.

The live meetings will include writing exercises, and time to discuss your learning and share your work in small groups.

By the end of this course, you'll have four newly polished pieces of writing, plus, more importantly, a new set of tools strengthening and honing your work. (In addition to the relationships you'll gain throughout the course.)

Keep in mind, enrollment in this course is limited. For those interested in participating, you are encouraged to enroll right away.

Helen Toraskar

“ The back-and-forth feedback through the weekly submissions, prompts, and posts helped propel me through this novella writing process. I wrote 40k in 8 weeks. Each time I got stuck, Daisuke's prompts 'unstuck' me. Their feedback was very helpful, picking up on subtle things I was trying to do and offering suggestions that were thoughtful and relevant”

Erin Swann

“Daisuke is a wonderful caring teacher, full of love and encouragement… The edits on my work were absolutely wonderful and to the point. I loved the edits, and the direction they gave me to expand the piece. ”

Radhika Iyer

“As for Daisuke, I can't sing their praises loud enough! The amount of editing they did to my work showed that they wanted to provide feedback, would not be content with a brief and cursory glance, and truly wanted to make me feel as if they had fully read and thought about what I wrote. Definitely what I hoped to see in an editor and I was not disappointed.”

Andrew Long
