Poet to Poet:
Finding Inspiration in the Work of Others

Saturday, December 6th, 2025
Poetry • Online • 10am–2pm ET

You are invited to a one day live generative poetry workshop with Emily Harstone.

This workshop is an invitation to join the tradition of writing poems inspired by the works of others.

The best poems are often written in conversation with other poems and poets. They exist in community, as part of a long conversation, extending from poem-to-poem, and poet-to-poet through the act of writing and sharing poems in response to one another.

Finding inspiration in the work of others can energize your own creative process and give you new avenues for crafting poems that resonate with readers, and become part of the broader conversation that exists among and between poets.

During this workshop you’ll spend time studying work written by poets such as Ilya Kaminsky, Terrance Hayes, W.H. Auden, and Gwendolyn Brooks.

You will also be given the time and inspiration to write four drafts of poems, based on varied approaches to writing in conversation with other poets.

The workshop is a mix of writing prompts, class discussion, and time spent in community with other poets.

You’ll leave this workshop with four first drafts, and strategies for writing poetry in community and conversation with other poets.

For those who are interested in participating, you are encouraged to enroll right away.

The course is entirely online, and hosted via Zoom. You'll also get full access to a course discussion board, so you can share and discuss your work with the class, even after the official course dates.
